Answer: For me, I also seemed to get better after my diagnosis. Self-awareness can do wonders for someone, which is another reason I support self-diagnosis. I was professionally diagnosed, but I quit outpatient shortly after that because my therapist was horrible, and despite going a while without any sort of treatment, I did start to get better anyway. Doing research, finding other people with my disorder, and being able to pinpoint my symptoms and what was causing; I made a lot of progress through self-awareness alone. It’s only half the battle, I feel, but it was progress nonetheless. It doesn’t surprise me at all that your symptoms have gotten better since diagnosing yourself. Having a name for your experiences can be healing.
