Answer: This really depends! Some professionals will spend up to a year evaluating you to get to know you and find the right diagnosis. Meanwhile, I was diagnosed during a hospitalization, and the head psychiatrist there spent a whopping 20 minutes with me before giving me my BPD diagnosis. It all depends on the person diagnosing you.
It can also depend on how much you’re willing to share, how you express your symptoms, the experience of the person diagnosing you, and all sorts of other factors. Also, some disorders are easier to diagnose than others.
