Anonymous asked: What is a breakdown?
Answer: “Breakdown” is a term people with disorders often use to express a period of being in a bad and awful state. It can be described as a time when you can no longer reach the level you were running on previously, like if you were previously “okay” but now you’re distraught and inconsolable. Breakdowns are often triggered by something, like an event, an action, a thought, or a memory.
For me, breakdowns are often periods where my thoughts are disorganized, nothing makes sense, I cycle through “negative”(sadness, anger, ,fear, emptiness, etc) emotions quickly and often without appropriate cause. It’s often accompanied by the immense need to run away, impulsive thoughts and behaviours, splitting on people, self harm, dissociation, and more. Basically all my symptoms get worse, I don’t have the energy to cope and they kind of overrun me to exhaustion.
Breakdowns are different for everyone, but it essentially means a time when everything sucks, your symptoms are Too Much, and you physically, mentally, and emotionally can’t handle or cope with what you normally could. Breakdowns are more common when you ignore your needs or when going through something stressful.
I hope this helped shed some light on the word and its use, its kind of a broad definition/topic. If any mods or followers wanna add on, feel free! -kenzie :)
