Um...never done a forum thing before so I guess here goes?
Sup, I'm Kit (they/them pronouns) I'm a genderqueer kid from Canada. Well not kid, I'm 20, I just say kid a lot because there's not a whole lot of gender neutral terms that are cool and hip and fun heh.
A little about me I guess? I'm an activist in the queer community in my town, working with LGBT+ youth. I'm also a college student (gender studies). I'm a singer and a slam poet. I'm a dog lover, I swear a lot, and I love my chosen family.
I've not been diagnosed but I have professional opinions that agree that I have BPD. Not sure if I want a diagnosis because of...a lot of reasons.
Anyhow yeah, nice to meet?? yall?
pce Kit

Hi Kit! Welcome to the forum!
Not wanting a diagnosis is totally understandable. Whether you do or don't want a diagnosis, all types are welcome here, and I hope you can still find the forum useful. It's great that you're doing activist work for your community! I'm very limited in what activism I can do because of my disability, but I admire people who do it.
Feel free to let me or another mod know if there's anything we can do for you!

I'm older than you Caro and I'm childish too lol.
Kit, being diagnosed bpd by a panel of doctors and another Dr that never saw my medical records from that panel didn't really bother me at first. Then one doctor gave me a borderline book to read and it was the worse thing ever. I literatly had a lump in my throat for hours. I think I was sick to my stomach too. Worst day ever.
You should definatly get it checked though or you'll end up like me. Maybe catching it earlier betters the chances of getting better.

Part of me wants to get it checked out because a. its so tiring, b. i actually have people in my life I care about atm and its starting to affect our relationships despite trying to be (and succeeding at times??) very communicative about feelings. I just have no workable resources to work on it and thats what I want to find through counselling/possible diagnosis?
That being said, I have a really complex relationship with the idea of recovery bc of other disorders. Also the stigma could be tough for one of my two ideal fields of work. Idk -shrugs into eternity-

I know what you mean about the complicated feelings of getting a diagnosis. Having one has affected me when I've tried to get a puffer for my asthma in the past - I got denied at first because the doctor said it was my disorder, not asthma, causing all my breathing problems :/ It's scary having it on my papers & I kinda wish I got a choice? But it does give me the benefit of not having to go through introductory meetings with therapists when I do try to start DBT. My first time was 3 meetings that took over 2 months, my last time was one meeting & I was signed up for the course that day.
It takes a strong will to be an activist! you should be proud (: Ah a slam poet? That's awesome!! I tried to do spoken word a while ago but anxiety kept me from returning, it's really cool to hear someone bare their feelings like that
I'm nova, Nice to meet you!!

Heyo, Kit.
I can totally understand not wanting a diagnosis. I think it's something that has it's pros and cons, but for some people the cons vastly outnumber the pros.
I hope you like it here and this place can help you. :3

Nova you sound lovely!
To both Nova and Vay, yeah diagnosis is a tricky subject. I'm lucky enough that now my college covers medical insurance so I can talk to them about it directly instead of going through my family practitioner. I guess we'll see how it goes haha
I'm very much liking it so far! Gonna go pop into some of the other introductions now that I'm not half asleep
