Anonymous asked: hey. at what ages do people develop symtoms of bpd mostly? bc i'm 15 and i saw your post that had tests/sites for self diagnosis and i've done them all and concluded from all of them i probably have severe bpd. i researched each symtom too to make sure i understood before i assumed i had it. is that possible? at this age? it makes me nervous at the thought of having a personality disorder.
Answer: Some people experience symptoms in childhood. Some people start showing symptoms as a teenager. Some in their early 20s. Everyone is different!
The thing is, it’s a personality disorder, and your personality isn’t fully developed until you’re, what, 25? This isn’t to say that you can’t be diagnosed until you’re 25 (some people are diagnosed at 14), but that honestly a personality disorder can develop at any point as your brain is developing. Of course, this also means that if you catch the symptoms early enough, you can get treatment and perhaps avoid getting a shitstorm of borderline symptoms when you’re a bit older! If that makes any sense.
It is possible to have BPD as a teenager. It is possible to start showing symptoms now, or maybe you can look back and realize you were showing symptoms when you were as young as five years old. Borderline can start taking its roots at any point in your developmental years. It can make itself apparent anywhere between the ages of probably 13 to 25?
