Anonymous asked: Is there anyone that's come to you after giving one of the checklists to their doctor? I want to do that but I'm scared I might seem weird doing it.
Answer: We’ve have actually had several (as in several dozen) people send us messages about presenting a doctor or therapist with a filled out checklist, and most of them have been good experiences. The bad experiences resulted in complete dismissal from the therapist, which is a reflection on the therapist more than anything. Still, we’ve mostly had success stories shared with us, which resulted in diagnosis and support from the doctor/therapist/etc.
I’ve also done checklists with my own therapist! I was professionally diagnosed with BPD already, but I suspected other PDs and brought up my concerns with her. When she asked about my symptoms, I found myself totally blanking out, so having the checklists handy really helped me communicate my symptoms. I provided her with examples, as well as let her know how often I was experiencing the symptoms, and it helped her understand me too.
