I work with children who have special needs, in preschool, helping them achieve goals and making sure they get everything they can out of the program. I work with a 3 year old girl with DS and ASD, she is currently learning sign to communicate and is mostly non verbal. Today she said her first word to me. She signed 'done' and then repeated 'done' to me 3 times letting me know she was done eating her snack. It was so exciting and her mom cried when I told her about it. I feel so honoured that her first word was for me !!! . Lots of trying trying trying and repetition payed off <3

That's really amazing! This is probably a rewarding experience for her, being able to communicate. As she learns more words, her confidence may grow, and that will be amazing to see. <3
