Anonymous asked: Should i tell my boyfriend that I have bpd ?
Answer: My advice is yes.
Not because you ~owe him an explanation~ or something, however. You don’t owe anyone the truth about your diagnosis. I don’t want you to feel like you have to tell your boyfriend because he ~deserves to know~ or some bullshit reason like that. I think you should talk to him about it because you shouldn’t feel like you have to hide your diagnosis. You know what I mean? You should be able to feel comfortable talking about this. You deserve to be able to confide in your romantic partner because living with BPD is a tough experience, and you deserve his support.
Tell him on your own time though. I have close friends who still don’t know my diagnosis, and I will tell them when I’m ready. Don’t push yourself if you don’t feel comfortable, but do remind yourself that you deserve emotional support from your boyfriend. Besides, knowing about your diagnosis could help him to better understand you, and could strengthen the relationship. x
