Anonymous asked: i have a really important question which I hope you guys can answer. How often do mood swings happen in people with BPD? Also how often do they change their identity/self-image? Does it have to happen at least once every day?
Answer: Some people experience mood swings every day, and some do not. BPD exists on a spectrum, so everyone experiences a variety of symptoms in different way. How often mood swings and identity crises happen really depends on the individual.
In a day, I can have five mood swings in under an hour but spend the rest of the day totally fine, and then it won’t happen again for a few more days. How severe symptoms are and how often they happen also depends on how stressed a person is. Personality disorder symptoms are often triggered by stress and things going on in the person’s life, so if you’re going through a bit of a grace period in your life, then symptoms won’t be as severe.
It really just depends on the person and what they’re currently going through in their life at that moment.
