Anonymous asked: should i tell my therapist that i self harm eventhough i dont do it very often anymore? Would it be important? If yes how do i tell him?? Im sorry if this is a weird question but im kind of stressed out about it and i honestly dont know
Answer: You should definitely let your therapist know about your self-harm and how often you do it. You should also mention past experiences with self-harm and how often you used to do it. Even if you’ve gotten better, it’s important to address your symptoms in therapy so that you can fully recover! Mentioning that you do or used to self-harm will tell your therapist that you’re experiencing self-destructive thoughts, and those symptoms will be addressed in therapy. Anything you don’t mention in therapy most likely won’t be treated in therapy.
