Anonymous asked: can someone with bpd be a psychiatrist? please dont say "yes". i just dont know if i need the answer yes or no...
Answer: Yes, but not without a lot of side-eyeing and ableist comments from the rest of the psych community.
Marsha Linehan, the psychologist who created DBT, has borderline personality disorder. She was “in the closet,” so to speak, about it until later, and people tried to discredit her research because of her disorder, but other professionals agree that DBT is one of the most successful things to ever come out of psychiatry. I think her mental health and her struggle with it is part of what makes her such a great psychologist. Ableists will get over it.
